The Department of Geography of Sibsagar Girls’ College was established in the year 1964. Late Arun Bairagyi was the founder of the department. Later on, Mrs. Kiran Baruah, Late Dugdha Sharma and Phanin Chandra Mout joined the department. After that Mr. Sanjay Das joined the department in the year of 2004, Dr. Madine Hazarika in 2009 and Barasha Rani Das in the year of 2021. Major course in the department was started in 1987. Since then it is being continued. Right now, the department is conducting major with Generic and Skill Enhancement course (SEC) and one more add on course. Intake capacity in major is 65. Out of the 65 seats, definite percentage are reserved for the Tea Tribes SC, ST, OBC and Specially abled students.

III. To maintain the interdisciplinary nature of the subject.
IV. To highlight and focus on the scope of the subject there by creating course in diverse field.
V. To brand the department in the field of women issues under the branch of Femine Geography.
VI. To incorporate update technology of methods and spatial science.

Department of Zoology has its wall magazine named “Live Life”, which is published every year during College Youth Festival, which also gains prizes in different categories. We have published one news letter having the same name “Live Life” from the current year 2022.
