Department of Zoology was established in the year 1989 as part of the science courses. Presently there are three faculty positions and one non teaching staff. With a group of dedicated and enthusiastic faculties at the helm, the department is taking faster strides in academic as well as non academic activities. Within the spam of time, alumni of our department have spread their name and fame in academics, medical, research, social service and all other walks of life. Department of zoology has always strived to remain enriched and updated both in academic and non-academic realms. Students and faculty of the department by their synchronized activities always tries to bring laurels to the department and thereby, to the parent institution. Experiential learning inclusive education and quality enhancement are the central pillars of all the activities organized by the department .

Vision of the Department of Zoology is to achieve excellence through good and scientific educational practices with envisions inculcating the highest values of life, science, education, respect for nature and concern for ethical values among students.

Mission:
The mission of the department of Zoology is to impart education to the students of Zoology so as to equip them to-
a) Capable of making a significant contribution towards sustainable development and well being of mankind.
b) A sound education in basic sciences and high values through a liberal education.
c) Contemporary advancement in life sciences as well as global perspective and skills that benefit humanity.

Alumni of the department donated many books for the department. An aquarium was donated by our alumni Dr. Ranjita Bonia (batch-2003) on 28th September, 2021

Department of Zoology has its wall magazine named “Live Life”, which is published every year during College Youth Festival, which also gains prizes in different categories. We have published one news letter having the same name “Live Life” from the current year 2022.

Student Achivement

a) Dr. Archita Baruah, student of 2010 batch were offered Post Doctoral fellowship by IRISH RESEARCH COUNCIL (Government of the Republic of Ireland) on31st May, 2021. Currently, she is working as Technical Liaison Officer at Centre for Agriculture Bioscience International, Egham, Surrey, London from April 2021.
b) Darathy Deori, student of 2016 batch cleared NET (JRF) in the year 2019 and was appointed as Assitant Professor, Kamrup College, Chamata, Nalbari in the year 2022. (23/09/2022)
c) Priyanka Dey, student of 2016 batch was appointed as Assistant Teacher at Na Mati high School, Nazira in the year 2022.
d) Dixita Das, student of 2018 batch cleared NET in the year 2021 and GATE in the year 2022.
e) Sukanya Barthakur, student of 2019 batch cleared both SLET and GATE in the year 2022.
f) Gitali Gogoi, Namita Saikia, Banashree Kalita cleared LP and UP TET in the year 2019; Rashmi Bharali, Lekhika Saikia, Madhurima Gogoi and Banashree Kalita cleared LP and UP TET in the year 2021; Gitali Gogoi and Namita Saikia cleared High school TET in the year 2020.
g) Jyotimala Bailung, student of 2021 batch had been recognized by Indian Book of Record for the smallest miniature art on a petal of flower, representing human foetus and she had also won the 1st prize in “Online poster making competition” by IQAC, Sibsagar Girls’ College and Project Sakhi on World Menstrual Hygiene day 2021.
h) Dibyajyoti Borgohain, student of 2021 batch won the 1st prize in “District level Photography Competition” organized by NSS unit and college environment cell, in collaboration with IQAC, Sibsagar girls’ College.
i) Puja Bhumiz, student of 2021 batch won the 1st prize in “Professor Dugdha Sarma Memorial Prize money poster drawing competition” organized by Deptt. Of Geography and IQAC, Sibsagar Girls’ College.
j) Rituparna Lahon, student of 2022 batch won the 1st prize in “Online Poem Recitation competition” by Study tube YouTube channel.
k) Gargi Borgohain, a 3rd semester student was crowned as the “Best Sports Women” of the college in the year 2021-22.
